Seeing the connection between nature and human life is an important building block for students. This lesson is designed to give students a better understanding of where things come from and introduces students to the concept that living things in nature supply our food and shelter. (Most appropriate for Kindergarten.)

Lesson Time: 45-50 minutes

Student Activity 1: This activity has students in small groups working together to match an item they would find in the grocery store, to the plant or animal it originally came from.

Student Activity 2
: This activity helps students understand where building materials (like bricks, plywood, and tile) come from, and what they are made of.

Group work: Students will work in groups of 2-3 students. In order to save time, teachers are asked to create the groups before our Wizard arrives.

Science Standards:
K.LS.1: Living things have specific characteristics and traits.
K.LS.2: Living things have physical traits and behaviors, which influence their survival.
1.LS.1: Living things have basic needs, which are met by obtaining materials from the physical environment.
